the basics
- folk is a friend who lives in your texts and keeps you on track. you text it like you'd text anyone else, and it checks in on your gym days, keeps your streaks, locks you in for exams, logs your meals from a photo, asks how you're doing, and nudges you when it matters. it also looks stuff up, digs through your email, and watches a price when you ask. it has its own computer to work on, it can keep going while you're asleep, and it remembers what you told it months ago.
- use the Folk iOS app, the web, iMessage, Telegram or WhatsApp. downloading the app is optional. start at folk.com/signup and choose where to chat.
- sign up with your phone number and folk texts you first. no card, and you can start talking to it straight away. if you'd rather use telegram or whatsapp, you can connect those from your dashboard in a couple of taps.
- the everyday stuff: answers questions, searches your email, browses the web and actually clicks the buttons, sets reminders, joins your meetings and takes notes, writes and ships code, makes images, and calls you on the phone. it can also work in the background - watching your inbox, prices, or a website and texting you the second something changes. hook up gmail, calendar, drive, notion, slack, your bank and 1,000+ other apps, and if you use something niche you can plug in any tool that speaks mcp.
- yes. folk is free with 100 messages a day across personal chats and channels. messages reset at your local midnight. a friend signing up through your invite link restores your daily allowance immediately; sharing alone doesn’t. neither person needs to pay.
staying on track
- yes, that's the main thing people use it for. tell folk the goal and how hard to push: "gym mon/wed/fri at 7, ask me the night before and the morning of," or "nag me until my fafsa is submitted." it texts at those times, asks for proof, keeps your streak, and follows up when you go quiet. you control the tone, from gentle to relentless, and you can pause it any time.
- yes. name a habit and the time and folk checks in and counts the streak. tell it your gym days and it nudges you before and asks for the post-workout proof after. send a photo of your plate and it estimates calories and protein and logs it against your target. connect strava and it sees your workouts automatically. it's all one thread with one friend, so your gym days, your food, and your sleep are in the same memory.
- yes. say "lock in for 2 hours, essay" and folk sets the sprints, checks in between them, and asks what you finished. connect canvas and it knows your deadlines, so it starts nudging before the panic does. students also use it for wake-up calls before early classes, quizzing over text, and a wind-down at night so the phone actually goes down.
- no. folk is a friend who checks in every day, remembers what you said, keeps a mood log if you want one, and holds the notes you want to bring to your next session. it's not a therapist and won't pretend to be one. if something sounds serious, folk shares crisis resources and encourages you to reach a real person.
- yes. the daily-bible skill texts you a verse every morning at the time you pick, and the bible-reading-plan skill walks you through a plan chapter by chapter and checks in on your streak. you can also just ask folk to pray with you, explain a passage, or set up a prayer rule, and it remembers where you are in the plan.
skills
- a skill is one thing folk does for you on a schedule: send your morning brief, watch flight prices, keep your reading streak alive, check in on your workouts. it's the same folk, not a second bot - you add a skill and folk starts texting you about that one thing. some come with their own little app.
- browse them at folk.com/folkways and tap add, open any share link a friend sends you, or just ask in the chat - "set me up with a morning brief" - and folk finds the right one and sets it up. if it needs your calendar or your inbox, it walks you through connecting that in the chat.
- yes, and you don't need to know how to build anything. text folk "teach yourself to..." and it builds the skill for you, gives it its own app if the job calls for one, and hands you a share link right away. your friends can add it from that link immediately. if you want it listed in the public gallery, ask folk to submit it - our team reads every submission, which usually takes a few days.
- yes. eligible creators earn $3 per 1,000 completed replies from their characters and skills, including replies to free users. you must be 18 or older and complete payout verification with Whop in a supported country. earnings stay pending for 7 days before they can be paid out. referral rewards are separate. manage everything at folk.com/dashboard/rewards. skills made by the folk team don't earn, and adding your own doesn't count.
- folk answers questions, connects your apps, remembers context, browses, creates and runs reminders. your account shows the current limits for messages, background tasks and voice.

- yes, and it takes about ten seconds - settings → billing → manage on stripe. you keep everything until the end of the period you've already paid for, then you drop back to the free plan rather than losing your folk. your memory and your chats stay put.
- card payments run through stripe - we never see or store your card details. change your card, download invoices, switch plans, or cancel from settings → billing.
your apps
- gmail, google calendar, drive, docs, sheets, outlook, teams, notion, slack, linear, todoist, strava and your bank are all one-tap connections - open your dashboard, tap connect, sign in with the account you already have. no api keys, nothing technical. beyond that there's a searchable catalogue of 1,000+ apps you can ask folk to hook up. every plan connects as many as you like.
- you can plug in anything that speaks the model context protocol (mcp) - your own apis, a database, an internal tool at work. if it has an mcp server, folk can use it. and if there's something you want as a one-tap connection, just tell folk in the chat; those requests genuinely shape what we build next.
- yes, on a paid plan. bring your own anthropic, openai or openrouter key and folk uses it instead of ours. it's encrypted and stays inside your own private computer. that usage is billed by your provider directly and doesn't touch your folk allowance. add keys from your dashboard or just ask folk in the chat.
- voice is available with its own allowance. check your account for the remaining call minutes and read-aloud allowance; they reset separately from messages. no purchase is needed.
memory & privacy
- that's the whole point. folk remembers your people, your preferences, the projects you keep mentioning - and it keeps remembering, no matter how long the conversation gets. you can read everything it knows, edit it, or delete individual bits at folk.com/dashboard/brain. if you want a clean slate, settings → privacy → erase folk's memory does exactly that.
- no. we don't and never will train models on your conversations. your chats and your memory are yours, and we don't sell them to anyone either.
- your folk gets its own private computer in the cloud, with its own credentials, kept separate from everyone else's. your connected accounts, your keys and your chat history live in there and aren't shared between users. a small number of our engineers can access systems when they have to - to keep folk running or to help you when you ask - and that's covered in the privacy policy.
- open your dashboard, then settings → privacy → delete account. it cancels your plan on the spot and wipes your account, chats, memory and connected apps within seconds. encrypted backups age out shortly after, and we keep only what the law makes us keep for billing records. it can't be undone.
your account
- your number is how we know it's you, so a new number means signing up again - but you don't lose anything. text folk or email support@nozomio.com from the old number and we'll move your plan and your memory across.
- when a friend signs up through your invite, your daily messages refill. eligible personal referrals earn $15 after the friend sends 15 messages, with no payment required. qualification is checked about every 15 minutes. earned cash matures after seven days; payout setup and any review hold must be cleared before payment. see your referral page for the current status.
help
- just tell folk in the chat that you need a human. it files the ticket for you and our reply comes back in that same conversation - no support portal, no ticket number to keep track of. if you'd rather email, support@nozomio.com reaches the same people. folk is built by nozomio labs, a small team that replies fast.
- tell folk in the chat, or email us. what helps most: a screenshot, roughly when it happened, and what you were trying to do. we read every single one, and feature requests really do get built.
- folk lives in the apps you already text in, so there's no new app to open and no chat window to remember to check. it gets its own private computer rather than a sandboxed script runner, its memory grows for as long as you keep talking to it, and it keeps working in the background on its own schedule. skills are the other big one: you can add a ready-made one in a tap, build your own by asking, and get paid when other people use it.
